PORT WASHINGTON, NEW YORK, January 14, 1999 --
With China poised to become the next frontier for IT expansion, INTELECT ASW, the leading provider of worldwide sell-through information and analysis for the information technology industry, announced it has begun tracking sales of computers and printers in China. The first U.S. company to provide such information, INTELECT ASW will offer invaluable insight into China's complex IT marketplace.
"China has some very unique IT business practices," states Sima Vasa, vice president of INTELECT ASW. "Unlike the U.S. market where only a few companies dominate sales, small organizations with ten or less employees make up 86% of China's IT industry. Clone computers are also distributed in over 60% of Chinese IT shops, compared to top brand PCs that reach only 24% of distribution. Custom-assembled computers are another of the country's IT enterprises with 14% of shops focused on the assembling and selling of these units. Companies entering China will be confronted by an environment of low-priced computers and printers, where no major company controls the market and brand recognition has less influence than anticipated."
INTELECT ASW will address China's IT marketplace by compiling data from the key information technology cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, capturing 90% of total IT volume in all three markets.
Beginning in January 1999, a one-time market description study and ongoing sales tracking reports will be available. The one-time market description study will contain information unavailable from any other source, including channel analysis, market overview, end-user review and manufacturer profiles for each of China's principal IT cities. An end-user summary will provide distribution of sales made to business, government and consumers, along with detailed descriptions of each end-user. Ongoing tracking reports will monitor sales of China's PCs and printers. Information will include brand and model within each IT channel, sales and pricing by category. Tracking will include both business and consumer sales through retail and business-to-business channels.
"China is a natural extension of our company's already unparalleled international network for comprehensive IT information," explains Terry Rawlings, president of INTELECT ASW. "INTELECT ASW remains committed to providing an understanding of the worldwide information technology marketplace. China offers us another opportunity to fulfill this obligation to the IT industry."
Reports will be available to fit a range of company budgets. For more information on subscribing, contact Sima Vasa at (516) 625-4867 or sima_vasa@intelectasw.com.
