Executive Director, Industry Analyst - Connected Intelligence


John Buffone is an Executive Director, Industry Analyst, for Connected Intelligence, part of The NPD Group. He is responsible for developing research solutions and services that focus on how cellular- and Internet-connected devices are rapidly changing the way consumers use technology at home and on the go.

John’s expertise is in developing research solutions that address the business needs of industries whose market intelligence requirements constantly change due to the proliferation of faster broadband access. He has observed closely as this change has forced the convergence of content distribution and the connected device ecosystem. John brings 15 years of consumer research experience to the Connected Intelligence team. He joined NPD in 2004 after working in the custom research industry. He moved to NPD’s Connected Intelligence team in 2012, after serving in the company’s Entertainment business unit, first as director of client development and then as director of product development. In these roles John led NPD’s home video client service team that supported the evolving digital market intelligence needs of the major movie studios and video retailers. He developed NPD’s Blu-ray research portfolio in 2007, expanded NPD’s market coverage by developing and launching the Digital Video tracking service in 2010, and contributed to the re-engineering of NPD’s music industry tracking research in 2012.
