Janitorial & Breakroom Products Experiencing Growth Across All Channels, The NPD Group Reports

Port Washington, NY, March 11, 2015 – Sales of products within the Janitorial & Breakroom category group, an important contributor to the school and workplace environment, are growing among the brick-and-mortar, e-commerce, and commercial channels, according to global information company The NPD Group.

“Sales of janitorial and breakroom products are doing especially well across all channels, as schools and businesses recognize the importance of having sanitation products in stock to keep their environments clean and germ free,” said Leen Nsouli, office supplies industry analyst, The NPD Group. “These items are mentioned on 88 percent of K–5 school lists. In the workplace, as more offices expand their breakrooms for employees with the hopes of increasing workplace productivity, sales of breakroom items will continue to grow.”

 

Janitorial & Breakroom is feeling the e-commerce effect that is touching across many aspects of retail. Though its dollar share is 2 percent of the $11.9 billion industry*, the e-commerce channel is seeing double-digit growth across the majority of the Janitoral & Breakroom categories.

“Janitorial & Breakroom is important for all channels, as well as retailers wishing to place some focus on the small business customer,” added Nsouli. “I expect to see this category group continue to grow this year, especially online.”
