Plans To Provide Holistic View of Evolving Home Entertainment Ecosystem
Port Washington, NY, January 6, 2016 -- The NPD Group announced that it has purchased Nielsen’s VideoScan point-of-sale retail tracking service for the home video market. Combining the acquisition with its existing data assets and new services in development will enable NPD to offer unprecedented information and insight to help the entertainment industry understand and anticipate how consumers are acquiring entertainment.
VideoScan monitors DVD sales, including HD and Blu-ray sales, based on information collected from retailers. NPD will integrate the service into an expanding product portfolio, including new Checkout Tracking services it is developing for digital tracking of home entertainment sales. Today NPD’s Checkout Tracking measures U.S. omnichannel and online sales through receipt harvesting via NPD’s ReceiptPal app and ecommerce data provided through an exclusive agreement with Slice Intelligence. NPD also currently offers Video Watch, providing purchasing and behavior information from consumers.

Nielsen will continue to operate all aspects of the VideoScan service to clients during a transition period, including data processing and product support/servicing.
