Now that we’ve turned a page on Black Friday weekend, we’ve observed some substantial moves in Americans’ holiday shopping progress. While you’ve been savoring fall leaves and pumpkin spice lattés, our partner, CivicScience, has been busy polling U.S. adult consumers on their holiday shopping progress since early October—because it’s never too early to get in the holiday spirit.
As of November 27, 49 percent of adult holiday shoppers had not yet started holiday shopping.
This leaves more than half (51 percent) of adult holiday shoppers who have made a dent in their holiday shopping—3 percentage points greater than last year’s level. And over the past week we saw the proportion of American shoppers “almost done” with holiday shopping surpass those “halfway done”. Breaking it down, 23 percent of holiday shoppers have done a little shopping, 8 percent are about halfway done, 12 percent almost done, and an impressive 7 percent have finished entirely.
During the 2015 holiday season, consumers really kicked it into high gear the first week of December. We’ll be closely watching the holiday polls, so be sure to check back next week for your holiday shopping progress update.
